WINDSOR, Colo. - No. 3 Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC defeated No. 6 Forward Madison FC, 4-1, on Saturday evening at Future Legends Complex in the 2023 USL League One Playoffs Quarterfinals to claim its first-ever postseason victory. The Hailstorm will move on to the Semifinals as they take on No. 2 North Carolina FC on Saturday, Oct. 28.
After recording a winless 0-2-1 stretch against the 'Mingos in its inaugural 2022 campaign, the Hailstorm constructed a near-perfect 2-0-1 record against Madison - without conceding a single goal - across three regular-season contests in 2023. In the pair's fourth meeting of the 2023 season, the Hailstorm struck first through Trevor Amann's 25th goal of the season across all competitions. Madison responded early in the second half as its big offseason addition - Christian Chaney - hammered in the equalizing header. Despite FMFC accruing a greater expected goals value and portion of possession, Northern Colorado rattled off three goals in the final 30 minutes to claim its first-ever postseason victory.
Trevor Amann (NCO) – The 2023 USL League One Golden Boot winner recorded the second hat trick of his young career to propel his Hailstorm to the Semifinals. The 25-year-old forward also won three duels, three fouls and placed all four of his shots on target.
