Diverse Team of the Week closes out regular season

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced the Team of the Week for Week 31 of the 2023 regular season with Central Valley Fuego FC midfielder Cherif Dieye named Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball with the second brace of his career.

After missing more than half of the season to begin the year, Dieye made the most of his time on the pitch in 2023. Closing the year on the road in Richmond, the Senegalese winger tallied his first brace since Sept. 2022 with a pair of goals in the 33rd and 46th minutes. Dieye's brace - the first of the season for Fuego FC - helped Central Valley confirm a 5-4 victory at City Stadium in the league's highest-scoring match of the season.

In total, 10 of 12 teams earn representation across the Team of the Week and Team of the Week bench. Northern Colorado, Central Valley and North Carolina are the only teams to see multiple starters represented on the Team of the Week.

GK - Austin Causey, Lexington SC: The 22-year-old goalkeeper made a career-high seven stops and conceded zero goals for Lexington SC in the first-year side's final match of the season. Causey registered the fewest goals allowed compared to expected goals and maintained the best goals-added mark among goalkeepers on the week, according to American Soccer Analysis.

D - Gustavo Fernandes, North Carolina FC: Fernandes scored his first professional goal on Saturday, setting up NCFC for victory against Knoxville. The 25-year-old defender completed 83% of his passes and added eight duels won, four completed long passes, three recoveries and two tackles won.

D - Davey Mason, South Georgia Tormenta FC: The first-year Ibis concluded his productive season in Statesboro with an assist and three chances created. Mason also completed 87% of his passes and tallied six recoveries, three duels won and three successful crosses.

D - Arthur Rogers, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC: The 2023 USL League One Golden Playmaker was tied for the most chances created on the week with five in Northern Colorado's victory over Chattanooga. The defender also recorded nine successful long passes, five duels won, four recoveries, four completed crosses and three tackles won.

M - Cherif Dieye, Central Valley Fuego FC: The second-year Fuego FC winger tallied his second-career brace in Central Valley's 5-4 victory in Richmond. Dieye was the only player in Week 31 to account for multiple goals and added four duels won and three recoveries to his side's victory.

M - Noah Pilato, Greenville Triumph SC: Pilato proved efficient in Greenville's 1-1 draw with Lexington, completing over 97% of his 42 passes, reeling in 13 recoveries, winning seven duels, completing four crosses and winning three tackles. Pilato recorded the best passing score on the week, according to American Soccer Analysis.

M - Bruno Rendón, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC: Concluding a special first season in Windsor, Rendón scored the match-winning goal for Northern Colorado and also accounted for seven recoveries, five completed long passes and three chances created. Rendón maintained the best goals-added mark on the week, according to American Soccer Analysis.

M - Nil Vinyals, Richmond Kickers: The Spanish midfielder matched a career-high by netting his sixth goal of the season in Richmond's high-scoring duel with Central Valley. Vinyals was also responsible for 10 duels won, six recoveries, three chances created and two tackles won.

F - Trevor Amann, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC: The 2023 USL League One Golden Boot winner wrapped up his record-breaking campaign with the first multi-assist match of his career. In addition to his two assists, Amann also added nine duels won, four fouls won and two interceptions.

F - Alexis Cerritos, Central Valley Fuego FC: Central Valley’s star forward concluded the most productive season of his young career with a pair of assists and an additional two chances created. The El Salvador international completed 90% of his passes and contributed with an additional seven recoveries, seven duels won and five fouls won.

F - Garrett McLaughlin, North Carolina FC: The veteran League One goalscorer bagged the match-winning goal in the 89th minute of North Carolina's 2-1 victory over Knoxville. McLaughlin added 10 duels won, three chances created, three recoveries and two tackles won.
