Madison's Chaney named Player of the Week with brace in homecoming

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced the Team of the Week for Week 24 of the 2023 regular season with Forward Madison FC forward Christian Chaney named Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball with his seventh career brace in his homecoming match against Central Valley.

Having already drawn level following a quick Central Valley start, Chaney won the penalty in a 1-1 match just 14 minutes into the contest, slotting home his first career penalty kick goal in the 16th minute. Things took a turn later in the match, though, as Central Valley found themselves up a man and up two goals with a 4-2 lead just after halftime. Led by Chaney, the 'Mingos mounted an impressive comeback, highlighted by Chaney's equalizing score in the 83rd minute against his former club and in front of his hometown supporters.

"We’re going to fight until the end and go until we have nothing left to give because that’s the character of the team," Chaney said. "It was a blessing, for me, to not only help the team tonight but to do so in front of my family and hometown."

"We’ll have to regroup, recover and see what things we can improve upon," said FMFC Head Coach Matt Glaeser. "I’m really proud of the way we fought back against the odds and finished with a big point on the road."
