Robertson's Player of the Week performance earns Lexington record fourth honor of season

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced the Team of the Week for Week 14 of the 2023 regular season with Lexington SC defender Tate Robertson named Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball with his one-goal, one-assist week for the expansion side. The honor sees the first-year club become the first team in league history to earn four Player of the Week recognitions by Week 14 of a League One season.

Making his professional debut with Stumptown AC in 2019 before thriving with fellow NISA side Chattanooga FC between 2021 and 2022, Robertson has proven critical to Lexington’s early season success and active five-match unbeaten streak in the side’s first-ever campaign. The 26-year-old defender assisted Khalid Balogun’s insurance goal against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC in Wednesday’s 2-0 Lexington victory before masterfully guiding a free kick into the back of the net to earn a point against the league’s top team in NCFC on Sunday.

"We felt that if we could control the ball, which we did for the majority of the time, then we would be able to get space in the right areas," Lexington Head Coach Sam Stockley said after his side’s victory over Chattanooga. "We feel we’ve been working really hard at our attacking movements and our final third entries and now you see we’re starting to score goals and create chances. Very pleased with the work today."

The four teams to pick up three or more points in Week 14 – Greenville, Knoxville, Lexington and Madison – dominated the Team of the Week, claiming 15 of the 18 combined starting and bench positions. North Carolina – the only other club to earn points on the week – placed three players on the Team of the Week.

GK – Sean Lewis, One Knoxville SC: Lewis kept his fifth clean sheet of the season – the most in a single season in his eight-year professional career – in Knoxville’s 2-0 victory over Charlotte on Saturday. The 31-year-old shot-stopper recorded four total saves.

D – Timmy Mehl, Forward Madison FC: The 2022 League One All-League Second Team defender notched his second Team of the Week performance with nine clearances, five recoveries, five duels won, five tackles won and a clean sheet performance. Mehl's 0.41 goals added were the most on the week for a defender, according to American Soccer Analysis.

D – Mitch Osmond, Forward Madison FC: Putting in a clean sheet performance alongside Jake Crull and Timmy Mehl on the 'Mingo backline, Madison’s captain completed 80% of his passes, tallied eight recoveries, recorded four clearances and won four duels.

D – Tyler Polak, Greenville Triumph SC: Greenville’s second-longest-serving player, Polak continued his production with the side, totaling 11 recoveries, seven duels won, three fouls won and maintained a passing accuracy of 89% in Greenville’s shutout road victory over Fuego FC.

D – Tate Robertson, Lexington SC: Across an undefeated, four-point Week 14 for Lexington, Robertson notched one assist, one goal, 13 recoveries, nine clearances, nine duels won and three chances created all on a week-high 137 touches

M – Rafa Mentzingen, North Carolina FC: Mentzingen led all midfielders with a week-high 0.46 goals added, according to American Soccer Analysis. The League One veteran assisted NCFC’s second score against Lexington and added six duels won, four chances created and three completed dribbles.

M – Stephen Payne, Forward Madison FC: The former USYNT winger bagged a special match-winning score against his former club just one day after his 26th birthday. Payne also tallied three interceptions, created a pair of chances, and notched two clearances.

M – Louis Perez, North Carolina FC: Perez scored his fifth goal across the last 10 matches he’s played, helping NCFC remain atop the league table with its 2-2 draw with Lexington. Efficient as always, the Frenchman completed 91% of his passes, won seven duels, completed four crosses and placed three shots on target.

M – Frank Ross, One Knoxville SC: The former Scotland youth international helped Knoxville to a big home victory over Charlotte with his first professional brace. In addition to his 90% passing accuracy across 65 minutes, Ross converted a free kick with a 4.8% chance of finding the back of the net into OKSC’s game-winner before adding a goal from the penalty spot to confirm his side’s victory.

F – Will Baynham, Lexington SC: After starting his professional career in the Scottish lower divisions with Queen’s Park FC, Baynham secured his first goal with Lexington SC since heading stateside over the summer. The Australian forward scored the opening goal against NCFC on Sunday and added eight duels won and two fouls won across two Week 14 matches.

F – Garrett McLaughlin, North Carolina FC: NCFC’s leading scorer from a season ago assisted Perez’s opening score before notching a goal of his own just four minutes later against Lexington on Sunday. The veteran attacker placed all three of his shots on target, won three duels and created two chances.
