Zayed led Hailstorm to undefeated May with three wins, one clean sheet

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced that Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC's Éamon Zayed has been named the League One Coach of the Month for May. The honor is the club and coach's first since the Hailstorm kicked off its inaugural season in 2022.

"After back-to-back losses in the U.S. Open Cup against the [Colorado] Rapids and then Union Omaha in league play, we wanted to go and make things right, make amends, and show that bounce-back ability in May, and we did that - the team did that," Zayed said.

In his second year at the helm of the second-year club, the former League One forward has picked up right where he left off in 2022. After an unblemished 3-0-0 May with one clean sheet and a league-best plus-six goal differential, Zayed’s Hailstorm recorded their third unbeaten month in their last four and dropped just one contest across their last 11 league matches.

"I'm delighted with the team, the players and the staff as well," Zayed added. "This is a good opportunity for me to say something about them. The coaching staff - they're new to it this year - Colin Falvey is my assistant, Tim Murray is the goalkeeper coach. We have James Hilepo as assistant general manager working in the background with Jonny Waters, our kitman. The backroom staff have been excellent, they've helped the team."

Zayed becomes the first former League One player to be named Coach of the Month and just the third non-American coach to earn the award. Zayed was selected as League One’s Coach of the Month by the USL League One Technical Committee.
