TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced the five nominees for the League One Player of the Month presented by Konami eFootball for May, with top performers from the fifth season’s third month selected for the ballot.
Voting for the League One Player of the Month award will be conducted by the following two voting bodies:
A fan vote on USLLeagueOne.com will comprise 60% of the poll. The fan vote will run through Tuesday, June 13 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
The USL Technical Committee’s ballots comprise 40% of the poll.
The award winner and complete voting results will be announced on Wednesday, June 14.
Please note: The League One Player of the Month selection process in no way is tied directly to the voting and selection process of End of the Year awards such as League One Most Valuable Player or position players of the year.
F - Trevor Amann (NCO) – Across just 247 minutes of action in May, Amann became Northern Colorado’s all-time leading scorer following his five-goal May. The Westminster, Colo. native added to the Hailstorm’s unbeaten 3-0-0 month with one assist, one penalty won and the best goals-added mark in the league (1.20), according to American Soccer Analysis.
F - Leo Castro (GVL) – The 34-year-old Colombian veteran tallied two goals and two assists in May – the most goal contributions in a single month for Castro since April 2016 with Mamelodi Sundowns FC in the South African Premier Division. Castro also created five chances, won 24 duels and tallied four clearances for Greenville.
M - João Gomeiro (RIC) – 2022 USL League Two All-League midfielder João Gomeiro has been enjoying a strong start to his first full professional campaign. The Kickers' 25-year-old Brazilian scored three goals in just two Week 10 matches to earn Player of the Week honors and added 28 recoveries and 18 duels to his impressive month across five total May matches.
F - Noe Meza (OMA) – Following a fantastic debut professional season in 2022, Meza is poised to surpass his production from a season ago. While Meza averaged a goal contribution every 165 minutes in 2022, the 25-year-old forward is now averaging a goal contribution every 118 minutes following a two-goal, one-assist May. Meza also created eight chances and won 11 duels to secure his second consecutive Player of the Month nomination.
M - Louis Perez (NC) – The first-year North Carolina FC midfielder has helped NCFC stay at the top of the table for over a month and added to his side’s early season success with two goals and one assist in May. Proving productive throughout the month, Perez also won 19 duels, won 14 possessions, completed seven crosses, completed six dribbles and created four chances.
