El Salvador calls up Tamacas, Henriquez and Flores for June exhibitions

USL Championship, League One trio set for exhibitions against Japan, South Korea ahead of Gold Cup


Oakland Roots SC's Bryan Tamacas, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC's Jairo Henriquez and North Carolina FC's Nelson Blanco have been called up by El Salvador for a pair of games against Japan and South Korea in June.

A trio of players from the USL Championship and League One have been called up by El Salvador for its final preparations ahead of the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup next month. Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC’s Jairo Henriquez, North Carolina FC’s Nelson Blanco and Oakland Roots SC’s Bryan Tamacas will join the squad for a pair of exhibitions against Japan and South Korea in June ahead of the country’s Gold Cup opener on June 26 in South Florida.

La Selecta will play Japan at Toyota Stadium on Thursday, June 15 at 6:10 a.m. ET before heading on to play South Korea at the Daejeon World Cup Stadium on Tuesday, June 20 at 7 a.m. ET.

Henriquez has made nine appearances for the Switchbacks so far this season, recording one goal, one assist and 13 chances created in his first full season with the club. The 29-year-old recorded four goals and four assists in 15 appearances last season after joining Colorado Springs midway through the campaign and has recorded three goals and three assists in 35 appearances for La Selecta so far in his career.

Blanco has helped North Carolina sit in first place in League One this season, making nine appearances while recording a team-high 10 interceptions. The 23-year-old has made 59 appearances for NCFC in League One in his career, and has made eight appearances for La Selecta including appearing alongside Henriquez and Tamacas in March in El Salvador’s contest against the United States at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Fla.

Tamacas has become a regular in Oakland’s starting lineup since his offseason arrival, making six starts and eight appearances to help the side into the playoff positions in the Western Conference. The 28-year-old has won 10 of 12 tackles while recording seven interceptions and 12 clearances defensively and has recorded five chances created and a passing accuracy rate of 77.8 percent. Tamacas has made 63 appearances for La Selecta in his career, including appearing at each of the past three editions of the Gold Cup.
