Greenville starts to bounce back from slow start

A big six-point week for Greenville sees John Harkes' side rise dramatically after a steep fall in the previous week, while Charlotte leads the Power Rankings with a one-win, one-draw Week 6.

Summary

1 Charlotte Independence
(3-0-3)
Week 7: @ MAD

Last Week: 1
The Jacks are now two unbeaten matches away from equaling Omaha’s 2020 league record of eight undefeated matches to start a season. Reaching that feat may be difficult, though, as Charlotte will have to go through the third and fourth-highest scoring offenses in Greenville and Madison, respectively.
2 North Carolina FC
(3-1-1)
Week 7: @ GVL
1
Last Week: 3
After an opening day defeat, NCFC is now unbeaten in four straight contests. With the most goals scored on the season and Nicholas Holliday’s rising confidence, North Carolina’s new-look roster looks solid early.
3 Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC
(1-0-2)
Week 7: @ OMA
1
Last Week: 2
The Hailstorm have only played three matches this season, but Northern Colorado are one clean sheet away from breaking a league record. While part of that can be attributed to the fact that the Hailstorm have faced the fewest shots on target and have the lowest expected goals against mark in the league, Omaha will be a big test come Saturday.
4 Union Omaha
(1-1-2)
Week 7: v. NCO

Last Week: 4
Omaha will aim to be the first club in league play to score on Northern Colorado and Lalo Delgado. The Owls will need to take advantage of their ball security on Saturday as Omaha has the highest average passing accuracy in the league compared to Northern Colorado’s league low.
5 Richmond Kickers
(1-1-2)
Week 7: @ TRM

Last Week: 5
Through four matches to start the league season, the Kickers have only scored twice and conceded twice. Richmond will next be tasked with containing a Tormenta FC side who boast the league’s best shot conversion rate.
6 South Georgia Tormenta FC
(3-3-0)
Week 7: v. RIC
1
Last Week: 7
There have been a lot of goals in South Georgia matches; the Ibises have scored the second-most goals in the league but have also conceded the most goals. A 2-0 victory over Knoxville was a solid result, but you’d have to expect Players’ Shield winners Richmond will come out swinging against the defending champions.
7 Forward Madison FC
(1-0-2)
Week 7: v. CLT
1
Last Week: 6
Despite playing just three matches so far this season, the ‘Mingos are still riding the wave of a huge 4-1 win over Greenville in front of a huge crowd at Breese Stevens Field. The Jacks will be a difficult matchup, but there aren’t many better home-field advantages than in Madison.
8 Greenville Triumph SC
(2-3-0)
Week 7: v. NC
4
Last Week: 12
Following the slowest start to a season in league history, Greenville got back on track in a big way, grabbing six points, two clean sheets and two wins in Week 6. A result against a strong NCFC side would pretty much erase the early season concerns.
9 One Knoxville SC
(1-2-1)
Week 7: @ CV

Last Week: 9
Knoxville is the only side without a clean sheet this season, but that could change as they face an offensively challenged Fuego FC side on Sunday. Still, its time for One Knox to grab a victory over a team other than Lexington.
10 Lexington SC
(1-3-1)
Week 7: @ CHA
1
Last Week: 11
Lexington’s faced a gauntlet early in its first season, facing clubs with an average position in the table of 4.6 and registering a league-high 7.21 expected goals against. Still, Sam Stockley’s first-year squad has picked up a win and draw against a pair of solid opponents in South Georgia and Madison, respectively.
11 Chattanooga Red Wolves SC
(1-2-1)
Week 7: v. LEX
3
Last Week: 8
Less than six months after narrowly falling to South Georgia in the 2022 USL League One Final, the Red Wolves have restructured their roster and brought in a new head coach. That said, it’s been a struggle early on, with the Red Wolves winning just once this season.
12 Central Valley Fuego FC
(1-3-1)
Week 7: v. KNX
2
Last Week: 10
Even with just one win and one goal from open play on the young season, it’s still a bit too early to panic in Fresno. Still, Fuego FC absolutely needs a result against Knoxville as seven of its following nine matches will be against clubs currently sitting above the playoff line.
