WASHINGTON, D.C. - In the sixth all-time meeting between the pair of storied DMV rivals, Major League Soccer's D.C. United claimed a slim 1-0 victory over the Richmond Kickers in the Third Round of the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday evening at Audi Field. The Kickers pressed the hosts for the majority of the match, firing several shots on target. D.C. jumped in front just after the halftime break as Yamil Asad scored his first U.S. Open Cup goal from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute. The difference for DCU was goalkeeper Alex Bono who made several clutch stops - including a pivotal penalty save against Emiliano Terzaghi in the 76th minute - to keep the Kickers off the board and preserve his side's advantage.

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - In its fourth matchup against higher-division opposition, second-year club Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC suffered its first loss against such sides, falling to MLS' Colorado Rapids in the inaugural Platte River Derby on Wednesday evening in Commerce City, Colo. Former USMNT winger Jonathan Lewis helped the hosts get on the score sheet just five minutes in with a low, rolling shot from the edge of the penalty area. German midfielder Jackson Dietrich was able to pull the Hailstorm level with a diving header just before the halftime intermission. Still, a one-goal, one-assist second half for both Lewis and Max put the match out of reach for the visitors.
