MATTHEWS, N.C. - South Georgia Tormenta FC was defeated by a Major League Soccer opponent in its second consecutive U.S. Open Cup appearance, falling to Charlotte FC by a final tally of 4-1. After an opening goal by CLTFC captain Kamil Jóźwiak in the 24th minute, the match took an unfortunate turn for the League One champions as Davey Mason earned his second yellow card of the match in the 49th minute. ST. LOUIS CITY SC 5-1 UNION OMAHA

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - A season after progressing to the Quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup in its first participation, the Owls were ushered out by MLS expansion side St. Louis CITY SC in its first-ever U.S. Open Cup match. While the match was even in the middle of the pitch, the difference came in the attacking thirds, where St. Louis was lethal and Omaha was lethargic. While possession, passing accuracy, and final third entries were largely even, MLS' highest-scoring club was clinical in its attack, firing 13 shots on target and converting five to hand the Owls their second-largest loss. The scoreline was a bit misleading, though, as St. Louis was only expected to score 2.30 goals and Rashid Nuhu made eight solid saves to limit further damage.
