OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Monday it had reached a loan agreement with USL League One club Forward Madison FC that will send young forward Wolfgang Prentice to the Flamingos for the 2023 season.

Prentice will join Forward Madison this week, with Roots having the ability to recall him at any time from the loan.

“This is a great opportunity for a player with lots of potential,” said Oakland Roots Technical Director Jordan Ferrell. “We have been very happy with Wolfgang’s growth over the last year with our club and we think the situation with Forward Madison is a good fit for the next stage of his development.”

Prentice signed with Oakland last March and scored his first two goals for the club last Tuesday night in the club’s 3-1 victory against El Farolito FC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. This marks the second season in which the 22-year-old has gone on loan to a club in USL League One, with Prentice having recorded one goal and two assists in 12 appearances while with Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC a season ago.

“Wolfgang’s a player with Championship and League One experience,” said Forward Madison Director of Soccer Operations and Development Keith Tiemeyer. “He’s a physically long left-sided player. He can serve a ball, beat defenders off the dribble and finish as evidenced by his two goals in the Second Round of the U.S. Open Cup.”
