In just its second-ever match as a professional squad, One Knoxville SC is set to host intra-state rival Memphis 901 FC as the USL Championship side traverses the Volunteer State. Knoxville opened its professional campaign with a 2-1 victory over fellow League One expansion side Lexington SC in Week 1, but OKSC hasn't taken the field in over two weeks due to its Week 3 contest being postponed. For Memphis, the 2022 Eastern Conference Semifinalists have had a tough time adjusting to life after Ben Pirmann, as 901 FC are last in the USL Championship's Eastern Conference with a winless three-match start to the 2023 campaign.
Memphis will surely be hungry to grab its first win of 2023 and avoid a Second Round U.S. Open Cup exit at the hands of a lower-division, in-state opponent for the second consecutive season. First-time entrants Knoxville will play with nothing to lose, and the veteran leadership of Head Coach Mark McKeever - who has downed USL Championship opponents in the past as head coach of League Two side Mississipi Brilla FC - will be key should the first-year League One side hope to record the first professional cupset of the tournament.
KNX - Jordan Skelton: One of the most experienced defenders along Knoxville's backline will be tasked with containing Memphis' attacking collection of Phillip Goodrum, Laurent Kissiedou and Bruno Lapa, among others.
MEM - Bill Hamid: Longtime D.C. United and United States Men's National Team goalkeeper Bill Hamid joined 901 FC recently, making his first start for Memphis in a 1-1 draw in Miami last week. The 32-year-old 'keeper may be tough for Knoxville's attacking group to crack.
