Jacks, Ibises see the most movement following big Independence win

The Richmond Kickers and Charlotte Independence picked up big wins last week to extend their undefeated start to the 2023 campaign, while a pair of riveting draws rounded out the action in Week 2.

Summary

1 Union Omaha
(0-0-1)
Week 3: @ KNX

Last Week: 1
Omaha looked relatively composed as it adjusted to Dominic Casciato’s new system. While conceding just one score on the day, the Owls will be bummed they weren’t able to snag all three points from the ‘Mingos.
2 Richmond Kickers
(1-0-1)
Week 3: v. CLT
2
Last Week: 4
The Kickers remained unbeaten with a 1-0 victory over Greenville. Despite maintaining the highest expected goals against mark in the league, the Kickers have recorded back-to-back shutouts behind clean sheets from Akira Fitzgerald and Will Palmquist.
3 Greenville Triumph SC
(0-1-0)
Week 3: ---

Last Week: 3
A frustrating debut at Paladin Stadium saw Greenville struggle to convert its numerous chances in front of goal, while the Kickers found their match-winner off a Kharlton Belmar goal that had just a 4.2% chance of finding the back of the net, according to Opta.
4 Charlotte Independence
(1-0-1)
Week 3: @ RIC
3
Last Week: 7
The Independence got their scoring started in a big way, taking advantage of a rough outing from Tormenta FC’s Jara and a South Georgia ejection to smash three past the defending champs. We’ll see if the high-powered Jacks offense can become the first to score on the Kickers this Saturday.
5 South Georgia Tormenta FC
(1-1-0)
Week 3: v. NCO
3
Last Week: 2
A rain delay, an off day for Pablo Jara and a sending off for Preston Kilwien culminated in a 3-1 defeat for the defending champs. Once the Ibises tidy up their goalkeeping and see Kazaiah Sterling return to the fold, though, things should brighten up in Statesboro.
6 Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC
(0-0-1)
Week 3: @ TRM

Last Week: 6
The Hailstorm definitely would’ve had three points in their season opener if not for a record-breaking performance for Avilez in Chattanooga’s goal. Still, a promising offensive performance was backed up by strong defending and goalkeeping, even without Johan Peñaranda.
7 North Carolina FC
(0-1-0)
Week 3: v. LEX
2
Last Week: 5
Although sitting out of Week 2’s action, NCFC still lead the league in passing accuracy at 84%. John Bradford’s side continue to gel as they prep for their first meeting with expansion side Lexington SC on Saturday.
8 Chattanooga Red Wolves SC
(0-0-1)
Week 3: v. CV
1
Last Week: 9
Carlos Avilez did everything except score for his side, earning the Red Wolves a point as he kept a clean sheet with a club-record eight saves. Expect some more production in the coming matches from the 2022 runners-up as they get used to Ziggy Korytoski’s new leadership.
9 One Knoxville SC
(1-0-0)
Week 3: v. OMA
1
Last Week: 8
Knoxville had a week off to prepare for its biggest test yet – hosting League One power Union Omaha. Expect a close contest at Regal Stadium that will tell us a lot about each side.
10 Forward Madison FC
(0-0-1)
Week 3: ---

Last Week: 10
Christian Chaney is legit. The former Fuego FC man opened his Madison account with a special goal to tie the match before nearly winning the match on a walk-off bicycle kick score. Overall, a promising outing for the ‘Mingos saw them even with or ahead of Omaha in most statistical categories.
11 Central Valley Fuego FC
(0-0-0)
Week 3: @ CHA

Last Week: 11
Due to a match postponement, Fuego FC have yet to start its second League One season. After wrapping up its preseason hosting defending Liga MX champs CF Pachuca last week, Central Valley get started in league play on Saturday in Chattanooga.
12 Lexington SC
(0-1-0)
Week 3: @ NC

Last Week: 12
Lexington take on NCFC in Cary but will be without the veteran leadership of Co-Captain Don Smart as he serves his suspension. Still, don’t be shocked if the newcomers keep this one close on Saturday.
