PAPILLION, Neb. – Union Omaha today announced the signing of Ian McGrane, pending league and federation approval. McGrane’s signing adds another pair of experienced hands to Omaha’s goalkeeping arsenal ahead of the 2023 season.

McGrane comes to Omaha after one season with St Louis CITY2, appearing in seven matches and helping the squad to a Western Conference title and MLS NEXT Pro runner-up finish in its inaugural year. Before that, he spent two seasons with the USL Championship's Tampa Bay Rowdies. McGrane began his collegiate career in 2014 at Monroe College before moving on to the University of South Carolina. In his senior season with the Gamecocks, McGrane accumulated a 0.761 save percentage and 1.07 goals against average mark, good for third and fourth in Conference USA, respectively.

McGrane made his professional debut with NISA's Stumptown AC in 2019, making two appearances with the North Carolina-based side. A two-year stint in Tampa led to a season in San Francisco with NISA's Bay Cities FC before backing up Roman Bürki in St. Louis a season ago.

“Ian is an experienced goalkeeper that’s proven to be a great professional,” Omaha Head Coach Dominic Casciato said. “He is still young for a goalkeeper and joins us from a successful St. Louis team, where he played important minutes last year for John Hackworth. He’s a great locker room guy and will help develop our team culture, so I’m looking forward to him strengthening our group on and off the field.”

“Ian is a quality keeper and a good pro,” Omaha General Manager Peter Marlette said. “We improve immediately with him on our roster.”

“I’m excited for the opportunity to play for Union Omaha and to get to build on what last year’s squad has accomplished,” McGrane said.
