2022 MAC champion Eric Conerty inks first pro deal with Madison

MADISON, Wis. - Forward Madison FC has signed Eric Conerty, a 22-year-old midfielder from Grand Rapids, Mich., pending league and federation approval. The 5-foot-11 midfielder was a four-year player for Western Michigan University from 2019 to 2022. Most recently, Conerty helped the Broncos win their second Mid-American Conference championship.

“Eric’s a young, exciting midfielder that we’re thrilled to have at the club,” FMFC Head Coach Matt Glaeser said. “He’s coming off of a great season with Western Michigan and looking to continue his success in the professional environment.”

Before Conerty began his collegiate playing career, the midfielder played at Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central High School, where he helped his school win a district championship and earn second-team all-state honors during his freshman year. Conerty went on to play club until his senior year of high school, where he accumulated 40 goals and 12 assists en route to Dream Team honors from the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association and All-American honors from the United Soccer Coaches. 

In 2018, Conerty joined Butler University’s squad, and played in 17 of the team’s 18 matches, tallying eight starts and two goals on the year. After his freshman year at Butler, the midfielder transferred to Western Michigan where he immediately began to contribute. Conerty went on to play for four seasons with the Broncos, where he totaled 4624 minutes, 11 goals and 16 assists.
