WINDSOR, Colo. – Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC on Friday announced the re-signing of midfielder Nortei Nortey, pending league and federation approval.
In his first year with the club, the Chelsea FC academy graduate garnered some of the best numbers of his career.
He played a career-best 2,325 minutes and Nortey netted two goals. The first goal delivered a dramatic finish, at the same time helping the Londoner collect a League One Team of the Week honor. He scored an equalizer in the ninth minute of stoppage time on June 11 to steal a late point against eventual league champion South Georgia.
“I’m really happy to have Nortei back. He really came into his own last season,” Head Coach Éamon Zayed said. “He proved himself to be one of the best number 8’s in the league.
“I expect Nortei to build upon that success. I think he can have a massive year.”
The 28-year-old midfielder developed in the Chelsea FC academy between 2008 and 2013 before spending the majority of his career with English National League and Scottish Championship sides Dover Athletic FC, Welling United FC and Wrexham AFC, among others.
“Everyone that’s come and joined us, and everyone from last year, has the same prize in their head,” Nortey said. “It’s the championship. Hopefully, we can bring that to the people of Northern Colorado.”
