STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC today announced the addition of Brazilian midfielder Pedro Fonseca to its 2023 USL League One roster on a two-year deal, pending league and federation approval.

“In Pedro, we have acquired an incredibly versatile football player, who can operate in the 8, 10, 7 or 11," Tormenta FC Head Coach Ian Cameron said. "He has scored goals at every level he has played, and from all the aforementioned positions. He sees the field very well, so our front three will love playing with him if he sits underneath them.

"Against the ball, you can see his development with Real Monarchs and his understanding of closing spaces and pressing triggers grew the longer he spent in the central midfield position. That part of his game will grow further with us, so he can become the all-around midfielder that can apply his trade at the highest level in this country.”

With the Monarchs, Fonseca appeared in 20 matches, wearing the captain’s armband for seventeen of those matches during the 2022 season.

With seven goals and four assists, Fonseca proved to be the most productive player offensively on the field for the Monarchs.

“After my first contact with the coaching staff, I knew this was the challenge I wanted for my career," Fonseca said. "As an organization, Tormenta FC has the ambitious mindset that I want to embrace as I continue to grow as a player, adding value on and off the field. I can’t wait to get started.”

Fonseca was selected by Real Salt Lake in the second round of the 2022 MLS SuperDraft from the University of Louisville. Fonseca joined Real Salt Lake’s 2022 preseason. Fonseca featured for the first team in its fixtures against Grand Canyon University and Houston Dynamo FC.

At Louisville, Fonseca tallied 15 goals and 16 assists in 48 appearances. Fonseca appeared in three NCAA Tournaments and earned a berth to the Round of 16 during his sophomore year. Fonseca reunites with former Louisville teammate Elijah Amo after several seasons as teammates.

Fonseca also featured for F.C. Golden State in the PDL (now USL League Two), where he helped Golden State reach the Fourth Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, defeating USL Championship sides Orange County SC and Las Vegas Lights FC. Fonseca scored Golden State’s lone goal against MLS side LA Galaxy in the Fourth Round of the national competition.
