STATESBORO, Ga. – Defending League One champion South Georgia Tormenta FC today announced the signing of Matheus Cassini as its first new player signing ahead of the 2023 season, pending league and federation approval. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder from Brazil joins South Georgia on a two-year contract.

“Matheus is a player our staff enjoyed watching last season and he posed problems when trying to analyze how to contain him," Tormenta FC Head Coach Ian Cameron said. "With the firepower we have in our front line, we believe Matheus can have a very strong campaign creating and scoring goals. We’re excited to welcome him and his family into our community, and the fans will enjoy the flair he brings to the game.”

Cassini joins Tormenta FC following one year with League One side Forward Madison FC. With 26 games played, Cassini proved effective in the Madison offense, producing five goals and five assists for the 'Mingos.

“I am very happy to be part of Tormenta Nation," Cassini said. "Tormenta FC features players with a lot of quality and is a club with a lot of structure. I will do my best for this team and fans.”

Before moving to the United States in 2021, Cassini spent time with Botev Vratsa of the efbet Liga, the first-tier of Bulgarian soccer. At the youth level in his native Brazil, Cassini featured for his hometown Corinthians between 2008 and 2015. Cassini also featured for prestigious clubs in his career, including Palermo, Fluminense and Ponte Preta.
