MIAMI, Fla. – Miami FC announced on Thursday the club had acquired midfielder Gabriel Cabral via transfer from USL League One South Georgia Tormenta FC, and signed him to a multi-year contract ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Cabral joins Miami having this past season helped Tormenta FC claim its first USL League One title. The 25-year-old recorded three goals, three assists and 51 chances created across 33 appearances for South Georgia, starting all-but-one game for the club in the regular season. The 25-year-old ranked second on the team with 2,937 minutes of action and posted an 82.8 percent passing success rate on a team-leading 1,697 passes attempted during the season.

A native of Petropolis, Brazil, Cabral attended the University of Charleston from 2015 to 2018 and recorded 12 goals in 68 appearances for the Golden Eagles in his collegiate career. After completing his collegiate career at the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2019, he joined USL League Two side South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 in 2021 and recorded three goals and three assists in nine appearances for the side.

His play earned a professional contract in League One ahead of the 2022 season, and now brings Cabral to South Florida for his first season in the USL Championship this spring.
