FRESNO, Calif. – Central Valley Fuego FC announced on Wednesday the club had signed 2022 USL League One All-League First Team midfielder José Carrera-García ahead of the upcoming 2023 season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Born in Puebla, Mexico, Carrera-García joins Fuego FC after two successful seasons with fellow League One side Chattanooga Red Wolves SC. Within both seasons he recorded a total of 71 appearances, four goals, eleven assists, 39 clearances, 61 tackles and 76 interceptions.

Carrera-García had an integral role with the Red Wolves’ 15 unbeaten streak in 2021 as the side reached the League One Playoffs, and this past campaign he ranked first in the league in passes attempted with 1,976, while ranking second in the league with nine assists and 61 chances created. Carrera-García’s play not only saw him earn his first All-League honor but helped the Red Wolves reach the League One Final for the first time.

“I am very excited to welcome José to Central Valley Fuego FC. He’s a quality player and quality person,” said Fuego FC Head Coach Martín Vásquez. “José’s leadership and contributions will make everyone better. Our fans are going to enjoy watching him play.”

Prior to joining the Red Wolves, Carrera-García competed in the USL Championship for Las Vegas Lights FC during the abbreviated 2020 season where he made 13 appearances and notched a pair of assists on 13 chances created. He had also competed professionally at Liga de Expansión MX club Celaya FC in 2018 after a stellar college career at UC Berkeley where he started 70 matches for the Golden Bears.

“I’m beyond excited to be a part of the Fuego family and can’t wait to get started. I want to thank the entire staff and ownership for believing in me and bringing me aboard,” said Carrera-García. “I am looking forward to helping the team make the playoffs and bringing a championship to the city of Fresno.”
