KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – One Knoxville SC announced on Monday the club had signed forward Matthew Vowinkel as it continues preparations for the 2023 USL League One season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

Vowinkel joins One Knox having this past summer helped the Long Island Rough Riders win the Eastern Conference title in USL League Two, recording 11 goals in 12 appearances for the side during the regular season – ranking fourth in the league – before adding four goals in five games during the playoffs. Vowinkel’s strike rate sat at a goal every 88.3 minutes of the campaign.

The 23-year-old had previously been selected by FC Cincinnati in the Third Round of the 2021 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, but elected to return to Hofstra University to complete his collegiate career.

“Matt is a player that would be considered an old-fashioned striker in terms of having the ability to be in the right place at the right time to put the ball in the back of the net,” said One Knox Head Coach Mark McKeever. “He is a humble, hard-working player that can be an asset to One Knox in the 2023 season. I am excited to see this lad get the opportunity to score goals at the next level”.

A native of New Hyde Park, New York, Vowinkel recorded 42 goals and 16 assists in 89 appearances for the Pride. He was voted to the Colonial Athletic Association All-Conference First Team three times over his career.

“I cannot wait to join One Knox because I want to bring the fans and people of Knoxville an amazing first season,” said Vowinkel. “I am super excited to move to the beautiful city of Knoxville and still be able to do what I love to do.”
