TAMPA, Fla. – The Charlotte Independence's Omar Ciss has claimed the 2022 USL League One Fans' Choice Goal of the Year with his bar-down, match-winning banger from well beyond the penalty area.
With a one-goal advantage heading into first-half stoppage time, Ciss smashed in a bouncing ball on the half-volley from well beyond the penalty area. Banging off the underside of the crossbar and in, the goal served as Ciss' third of the season and the match-winner for Charlotte over in-state rival NCFC.
"I’m so happy to win this award," Ciss said. "It means a lot to me because it’s not easy to score this kind of goal. I just want to thank my coaches, staff, teammates, fans and everyone who voted for me. I can’t wait to start next season and score more goals like that."
Ciss' goal earned 87% of the vote conducted at USLSoccer.com to claim the award. South Georgia Tormenta FC's Jamil Roberts finished as a runner-up on 13% with his title-winning goal in the 2022 USL League One Final.
