Piedrahita is first goalkeeper to score in league history

TAMPA, Fla. – Union Omaha's goalkeeper Kevin Piedrahita has claimed the USL League One Fans' Choice Goal of the Month award for August with an incredible full-pitch stunner scored within the first 30 seconds of Omaha's match against North Carolina on Aug. 20.

In just his fourth start of the season, Piedrahita became the first goalkeeper to score a goal in league history with a boot from his own box that bounced over the NCFC ‘keeper on the opposite end of the pitch. Piedrahita's astonishing score triggered an avalanche of three Omaha goals inside the first 17 minutes of play. The Owls went on to win 4-1 over visiting NCFC.

Piedrahita's goal earned 93% of the vote conducted at USLLeagueOne.com to claim the award. Chattanooga Red Wolves FC's Rafa Mentzingen finished second on 3% with his cheeky chip against Greenville on Aug. 6, while the Charlotte Independence's Miguel Ibarra finished third on 3% with his scintillating scissor kick against Chattanooga on Aug. 27.
