A new leader emerges as the season winds down

Between the league table and the Power Rankings, the Richmond Kickers and Greenville Triumph SC have traded places between the top two spots in recent weeks. Thanks to a convincing 3-0 victory over Union Omaha, the Kickers replace Triumph SC at the top in both places.

Central Valley Fuego FC sees the biggest drop as they have only one once and scored thrice in its past six matches. Aside from Richmond’s three-spot jump, South Georgia Tormenta FC move up a pair of places following a 2-0 road win over Fuego FC.

Summary

1 Richmond Kickers
(11-7-5)
Week 22: W v. OMA
3
Last Week: 4
Average Ranking: 3
The Kickers showed no mercy in handing Omaha its largest league loss in club history and snapping the Owls’ club-record 11-match unbeaten streak to return to the top of the table.
2 Greenville Triumph SC
(11-7-5)
Week 22: L v. NCO
1
Last Week: 1
Average Ranking: 5
Tied for its largest home loss in club history, Greenville conceded an uncharacteristic 2-0 loss to a struggling Northern Colorado side which allowed the Kickers to cruise to the top of the table.
3 Chattanooga Red Wolves SC
(9-8-6)
Week 22: T @ CLT
1
Last Week: 2
Average Ranking: 4
Following a midseason slump, the Red Wolves are unbeaten in eight straight and challenging the league leaders despite conceding a late equalizer to Charlotte.
4 Union Omaha
(8-3-10)
Week 22: L @ RIC
1
Last Week: 3
Average Ranking: 5
The Owls’ club-record 11-match unbeaten streak came to a screeching halt thanks to a convincing performance from the Kickers in Richmond. Still, Omaha has the highest max points available as the season winds down.
5 Forward Madison FC
(7-5-10)
Week 22: T v. NC

Last Week: 5
Average Ranking: 7
FMFC’s scoreless draw with a struggling NCFC side on Wednesday was just as uneventful as the scoreline indicated with only five shots on target between the sides.
6 Charlotte Independence
(8-8-6)
Week 22: T v. CHA

Last Week: 6
Average Ranking: 6
The Jacks might’ve dropped a spot or two if it wasn’t for Tresor Mbuyu coming up with a clutch stoppage-time equalizer – the third goal of his career scored in the 90th minute or later.
7 South Georgia Tormenta FC
(8-8-6)
Week 22: W @ CV
2
Last Week: 9
Average Ranking: 6
Tormenta FC will hope to continue its winning ways and bounce back from a lethargic midyear run. South Georgia took advantage of an offensively challenged Fuego FC side to jump back into the playoff conversation.
8 Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC
(7-9-8)
Week 22: W @ GVL

Last Week: 8
Average Ranking: 9
The Hailstorm pulled off possibly their biggest win since downing Real Salt Lake in the U.S. Open Cup earlier this season. Despite that, the newcomers will need to pick up a few more points to challenge for the final playoff spot.
9 Central Valley Fuego FC
(7-9-6)
Week 22: L v. TRM
2
Last Week: 7
Average Ranking: 5
While the defense has been doing its job, Fuego FC’s struggles have stemmed from its inability to score goals. In its last six, Central Valley has averaged just 0.5 goals per match during a difficult 1-4-1 run.
10 FC Tucson
(4-11-5)
Week 22: T @ NC

Last Week: 10
Average Ranking: 10
It’s been a tough season for FC Tucson. With 17 of its 20 matches being decided by one goal or fewer, Tucson has picked up a league-low 17 points from those 17 contests.
11 North Carolina FC
(6-11-5)
Week 22: T @ MAD, T v. TUC

Last Week: 11
Average Ranking: 6
NCFC is two losses and two FC Tucson wins away from sitting dead last in the standings. While not eliminated from playoff contention, North Carolina needs points. Desperately.
