Little movement as season nears conclusion

With their Week 20 win over the Kickers, Greenville returned to the top of the Power Rankings and the top of the table once again. Nico Brown's 90th-minute headed winner propelled Greenville to a last-minute victory and earned the 24-year-old a spot on the Team of the Week.

Overall, there was little movement from Week 19 to Week 20 as the league table and Power Rankings begin to sort themselves out with the end of the season looming. Greenville Triumph SC and the Charlotte Independence rise two spots thanks to a pair of convincing victories, while the Richmond Kickers and South Georgia Tormenta FC drop a pair of spots following tough losses.

Summary

1 Greenville Triumph SC
(10-6-5)
Week 20: W v. RIC
2
Last Week: 3
Average Ranking: 5
Greenville snapped its three-match winless skid with a statement victory in the final seconds against the then top-of-the-table Kickers, earning Triumph SC a return to the top of the standings.
2 Chattanooga Red Wolves SC
(8-8-5)
Week 20: T @ MAD

Last Week: 2
Average Ranking: 5
Following an eight-match stretch featuring six losses, the Red Wolves have gotten back on track with six consecutive unbeaten matches to surge back up the table.
3 Richmond Kickers
(10-7-4)
Week 20: L @ GVL
2
Last Week: 1
Average Ranking: 3
The Kickers’ three-match win streak was snapped in heartbreaking fashion against Greenville as Nico Brown scored the go-ahead goal in the 90th minute of a defensive battle. Still, the league’s highest scoring side should have not problem challenging Greenville at the top.
4 Union Omaha
(6-2-10)
Week 20: T v. NCO

Last Week: 4
Average Ranking: 5
The Owls are unbeaten in nine consecutive matches thanks to the best defense-goalkeeping combo in the league thus far. If they can pick up some offensive momentum, Omaha could challenge for the top of the standings.
5 Charlotte Independence
(8-7-5)
Week 20: W @ TRM
2
Last Week: 7
Average Ranking: 6
The Jacks took advantage of a slumping Tormenta FC side to earn their fourth consecutive unbeaten match. If Charlotte can begin to reduce their league-high goal allowance, more wins should come.
6 Forward Madison FC
(6-5-9)
Week 20: L @ NC, T v. CHA

Last Week: 6
Average Ranking: 7
A nail-biting week for the ‘Mingos nearly resulted in zero points from two matches if not for Alvin Jones’ stoppage-time equalizer against Chattanooga (and the Red Wolves’ disallowed goal minutes later). Another point was lost on Wednesday night as NCFC scored a winner deep into stoppage time.
7 South Georgia Tormenta FC
(7-7-6)
Week 20: L v. CLT
2
Last Week: 5
Average Ranking: 6
Following an impressive win against Greenville on July 30, Tormenta FC has been shut out by a pair of teams below them in the table at the time of the match, losing 2-0 to Northern Colorado and 3-0 to Charlotte
8 Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC
(6-7-8)
Week 20: T @ OMA

Last Week: 8
Average Ranking: 9
The Hailstorm secured a late draw on the road against Omaha to save a point. Despite sitting at ninth in the table, the expansion side is just one win off a playoff position.
9 Central Valley Fuego FC
(7-8-5)
Week 20: W @ NC

Last Week: 9
Average Ranking: 5
Fuego FC scored its first goal in 22 days as Nathan Smith came through with a match-winner in the 34th minute, snapping a three-match skid.
10 North Carolina FC
(6-10-3)
Week 20: W v. MAD, L v. CV

Last Week: 10
Average Ranking: 6
An unlikely stoppage-time winner on Wednesday was followed by a disappointing 1-0 loss against Fuego FC on Saturday. The once electric side is still searching for its identity as the season winds down.
11 FC Tucson
(3-10-4)
Week 20:---

Last Week: 11
Average Ranking: 11
Tucson was off last week. Two of its next three matches are against Northern Colorado (9th) and North Carolina (10th). These are as close to must-win matches as you can get for the last-place squad.
