Sterling's five goals, two assists helped Tormenta FC to a league-high 13 points

TAMPA, Fla. – South Georgia Tormenta FC forward Kazaiah Sterling was voted USL League One’s Player of the Month for July. The former England youth international scored a personal-best five goals in a single month to go along with two assists and nine shots on target. Sterling helped Tormenta FC on to a league-high 13 points with a pair of braces and one match-winning goal. His 3.63 expected goals mark led the league in July.

Despite playing in less than 75% of Tormenta FC's 540 July minutes, Sterling made his presence felt on the pitch. Sterling started his month by assisting Gabriel Cabral's 81st-minute match-winner against Chattanooga on July 9 before netting his first brace since 2019 in the record-breaking 5-5 draw with Greenville on July 13.

Sterling rounded out the month by single-handedly propelling South Georgia to victory with his second brace of the month in Tormenta FC's 2-1 victory over North Carolina on July 23. Finally, the 23-year-old Londoner scored the opener and assisted Kingsford Adjei's match-winner in a resounding 3-1 victory over then top-of-the-table Triumph SC on July 30.

"I would like to thank my teammates and everyone at the club who supported me to get to where I am now," Sterling said. "This award is a stepping stone which shows that the club is going in the right direction.

"Personally, I picked up my form but I know I still haven't hit my stride. The goal for the rest of the year is to continue to get better and help the team get to the playoffs and see what happens then."

Sterling received 31% of a weighted poll that included the USL League One Technical Committee and an online fan vote held at USLLeagueOne.com. Fellow Tormenta FC teammate and South Georgia midfielder Gabriel Cabral finished second on 21% after totaling three goals and three assists, while Charlotte Independence forward Khori Bennett finished third on 19% after netting four goals.
