Greenville, Tucson bookend the Power Rankings once more

The top and bottom of the Power Rankings remain relatively intact, but the middle sees loads of movement. Despite dropping a 3-1 contest to South Georgia Tormenta FC, Greenville Triumph SC retains its spot at the Power Rankings pinnacle.

Forward Madison FC and Union Omaha experience the biggest falls, but only due to the rise of South Georgia and Richmond. Elsewhere, the Charlotte independence continues its steady rise up the rankings, and Central Valley Fuego FC fall as it aims to remain out of the bottom half of the league table.

Summary

1 Greenville Triumph SC
(9-5-5)
Week 18: L v. TRM

Last Week: 1
Highest Ranking: 1
A tough loss to southern rival South Georgia will help Tormenta FC more than it will hurt Triumph SC. Greenville still maintains a four-point cushion at the top of the table.
2 South Georgia Tormenta FC
(7-5-6)
Week 18: W @ GVL
3
Last Week: 5
Highest Ranking: 2
As previously mentioned, an impressive win against Greenville is important to Tormenta FC in the present. However, despite picking up the most points in the league in July, South Georgia may have been able to pick up some more if not for conceding nearly four goals more than expected during that span.
3 Richmond Kickers
(8-6-4)
Week 18: W @ NC
1
Last Week: 4
Highest Ranking: 1
They waited until *literally* the last few minutes of the match, but the Kickers did what they needed to do in Cary. After downing NCFC, Richmond is set to face the other two teams at the bottom of the table in Northern Colorado and Tucson as they look to set up a high-stakes clash in Greenville next Saturday.
4 Forward Madison FC
(6-4-7)
Week 18: T v. OMA, T v. CHA
2
Last Week: 2
Highest Ranking: 2
The addition of Raiko Arozarena in goal has been great for Madison and the Forward Faithful. The ‘Mingos have not lost since late June and four of six upcoming August opponents currently sit below them in the table.
5 Union Omaha
(5-2-9)
Week 18: T @ MAD, T v. CHA
2
Last Week: 3
Highest Ranking: 2
Approaching the highest points per match mark in the league still with only 16 matches played this season, Omaha is unbeaten in seven straight. However, we’re nearing the point where draws may not get the job done. Despite conceding by far the fewest goals in the league at 13, they’ve only scored 17 of their own which places them one goal above Tucson for fewest in the league.
6 Charlotte Independence
(7-7-4)
Week 18: W v. CV
3
Last Week: 9
Highest Ranking: 1
Charlotte is back to looking like the best team in the league one week to average at best the next. Right now, their form favors the former as the Independence have won two straight and most recently torched Fuego FC 4-0.
7 Chattanooga Red Wolves SC
(6-8-4)
Week 18: T @ OMA

Last Week: 7
Highest Ranking: 1
Draws are certainly better than losses, but a scoreless draw against a struggling Hailstorm side followed up by the concession of a stoppage-time equalizer in Omaha is tough for the Red Wolves.
8 Central Valley Fuego FC
(6-6-5)
Week 18: L @ CLT
2
Last Week: 6
Highest Ranking: 1
The Independence exposed Fuego FC last Friday with a 4-0 thumping in Charlotte. That’s a tough performance to follow up a strong 3-1 win over Richmond just six days prior.
9 Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC
(5-6-5)
Week 18: L v. CV, W v. CLT
1
Last Week: 8
Highest Ranking: 5
The Hailstorm have struggled to find the back of the net lately as the expansion side has only scored more than one goal in just two of their last eight outings. It won’t get much easier, though, as Northern Colorado is set to face Richmond, South Georgia and Omaha over the next two weeks.
10 North Carolina FC
(5-9-3)
Week 18: L v. RIC, PPD @ TUC

Last Week: 10
Highest Ranking: 2
NCFC have dropped the most points – 16 – from winning positions this season. North Carolina’s stoppage-time implosion against the Kickers added to that total.
11 FC Tucson
(3-9-4)
Week 18: PPD

Last Week: 11
Highest Ranking: 7
Luckily for Tucson, most of the league’s mid-table sides have been putting up draws rather than wins, keeping those slim hopes of escaping the bottom of the table alive. Tucson will hope to take advantage of NCFC’s rapid descent.
