Richmond, North Carolina, Greenville top Power Rankings

The Kickers maintain their spot atop the Power Rankings and the league table thanks to their Week 12 victory over the visiting Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC. Richmond leads the league in scoring and has won three of its last four to rise to the top of a congested league table.

Despite the 10-man Hailstorm making a valiant comeback effort last Saturday in Richmond, the Kickers secured a 3-2 win and tallied their second-consecutive three-goal match in the process. The match was fairly even throughout the first half until a second yellow card shown to Northern Colorado's Destan Norman in the 29th minute altered the trajectory of the match.

Richmond broke the match open with a pair of goals within the final five minutes of the first half, but defender Robert Cornwall nearly orchestrated a remarkable Hailstorm comeback with a goal and assist in the final 25 minutes of the match. The difference in this one ultimately came down to a Jonathan Bolanos goal for Richmond in the 76th minute.

Greenville Triumph SC rises into the top three to match its highest ranking of the season following a 2-0 win over Union Omaha, and Central Valley Fuego FC, Union Omaha and the Charlotte Independence take a slight fall following a trio of tough outings.

Summary

1 Richmond Kickers
(5-3-3)
Week 12: W @ NCO

Last Week: 1
Highest Ranking: 1
The Kickers have won three of their last four and are the highest scoring team in the league by a fairly wide margin. The offense is clicking, and Akira Fitzgerald is having a strong season in goal, naturally.
2 North Carolina FC
(5-3-2)
Week 12: W v. CLT

Last Week: 2
Highest Ranking: 2
Accumulating the most points per match in the league, NCFC is challenging the Kickers at the top of the table, matching the Kickers streak of four unbeaten.
3 Greenville Triumph SC
(5-4-2)
Week 12: W @ OMA
2
Last Week: 5
Highest Ranking: 3
The third club at the top of the league table to win three of its last four, Triumph SC blanked Union Omaha last time out to sneak back into the top three.
4 Central Valley Fuego FC
(3-2-5)
Week 12: T v. TUC
1
Last Week: 3
Highest Ranking: 1
Fuego FC’s up-and-down first season continued as the side has gone 1-1-3 in its last five outings. Typically relying on its stout offensive unit, a pleasant surprise has been Israeli goalkeeper Ofek Antman who has accumulated the second most clean sheets in the league.
5 Union Omaha
(3-2-4)
Week 12: L v. GVL
1
Last Week: 4
Highest Ranking: 2
Union Omaha’s four-match unbeaten streak was snapped as Greenville exacted its revenge against the Owls in Saturday’s 2021 League One Final rematch. With only nine league matches played – tied for the fewest – Omaha has time to improve its current ninth place standing.
6 Chattanooga Red Wolves SC
(4-5-2)
Week 12: ---

Last Week: 6
Highest Ranking: 1
The Red Wolves snapped an uncharacteristic three-match losing streak last week before sitting out Week 12. Chattanooga may have a chance to reclaim its spot at the top of table soon, though, as three of Red Wolves’ next four opponents sit below the playoff line.
7 Forward Madison FC
(3-3-5)
Week 12: T @ TRM
1
Last Week: 8
Highest Ranking: 3
Starting to convert the draws into wins, Madison has quietly gone unbeaten in four straight to slowly inch up the table. The ‘Mingos will face one of the biggest tests of the season next week as they host the top-of-the-table Kickers..
8 Charlotte Independence
(4-5-2)
Week 12: L @ NC
1
Last Week: 7
Highest Ranking: 1
Despite sitting at fifth in the league, the Independence’s early-season momentum has seemingly come to a stop as the Jacks have dropped four of their last five and failed to score a goal in their last three contests, being outscored eight to zero.
9 South Georgia Tormenta FC
(3-3-5)
Week 12: T v. MAD

Last Week: 9
Highest Ranking: 2
Despite securing three consecutive draws, the bottom of the table has proven to be just as congested as the top, meaning Power Rankings movement has been limited for Tormenta FC. Kingsford Adjei’s last-minute strike to salvage the draw for South Georgia should give the side some momentum heading into a big pair of upcoming matches against Omaha and Central Valley.
10 Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC
(2-3-4)
Week 12: L @ RIC

Last Week: 10
Highest Ranking: 6
TLike Tormenta FC, Northern Colorado’s performance on Saturday was actually rather impressive. Despite being down a man for most of the match against the best team in the league, the Hailstorm scored twice and nearly earned a come-from-behind draw in Richmond before losing by one.
11 FC Tucson
(2-6-2)
Week 12: T @ CV

Last Week: 11
Highest Ranking: 7
Keeping one of the best offenses in the league out of the back of the net in Fuego FC is certainly a step in the right direction for Tucson. Next up for Tucson: Chattanooga, Richmond and Greenville. Could be a make-or-break stretch in the side’s season.
