Kickers return to top of table and Power Rankings

The Richmond Kickers return to the top of the Power Rankings following their convincing 4-0 victory over Charlotte last week. Ronding out the top three are North Carolina FC and Central Valley Fuego FC.

In Richmond, 20-year-old Ethan Bryant opened the scoring early after a Derrek Chan mishap near goal led to a perfect service from Jonathan Bolanos. Again finding success on the left side, Bolanos fired in a cross that Matthew Bentley redirected nicely into the back of the net to double the Kickers lead. The final two Kicker goals would see Bryant and Bentley complete their braces with Bryant hammering in another Bolanos pass into an empty net and Bentley heading in a deflected Bolanos cross.

The Kickers are naturally the biggest risers, followed closely by Union Omaha and Chattanooga Red Wolves SC. The Charlotte Independence and South Georgia Tormenta FC see the biggest drop, while Central Valley Fuego FC and Greenville Triumph SC also take a slight fall.

Summary

1 Richmond Kickers
(4-3-3)
Week 12: v. NCO
4
Last Week: 5
Highest Ranking: 1
Riding a three-match unbeaten streak, the Kickers got back to their winning ways in emphatic fashion, seeing two players complete a brace in the same match for just the fourth time in league history.
2 North Carolina FC
(4-3-2)
Week 12: v. CLT

Last Week: 2
Highest Ranking: 2
With three key playmakers out on international duty, North Carolina was able to salvage a 1-1 draw in Northern Colorado’s home opener. When its talented trio returns, they should continue to see positive results.
3 Central Valley Fuego FC
(3-2-4)
Week 12: v. TUC
2
Last Week: 1
Highest Ranking: 1
After a strong May, Central Valley didn’t start off June on the right foot as the newcomers dropped a tough contest to a hungry Red Wolves side. Still, though, the attacking potency of Fuego FC should serve it well going forward.
4 Union Omaha
(3-1-4)
Week 12: v. GVL
3
Last Week: 7
Highest Ranking: 2
Riding its longest winning streak of the season, the Owls have gone unbeaten in four and secured back-to-back wins in its last two outings. The youthful roster Jay Mims has put together will again see the side challenge for silverware.
5 Greenville Triumph SC
(4-4-2)
Week 12: @ OMA
2
Last Week: 3
Highest Ranking: 3
If it wasn’t for a Matheus Cassini master class, Greenville may have secured their fourth win in five matches. Instead, they fall to 1-2-2 on the road and take a slight tumble down the table.
6 Chattanooga Red Wolves SC
(4-5-2)
Week 12: ---
2
Last Week: 8
Highest Ranking: 1
After an uncharacteristic stretch of three consecutive losses – tied for the longest in club history – the Red Wolves bounced back in a big way, handling Fuego FC in Fresno and vaulting back up to second place in the league table.
7 Charlotte Independence
(4-4-2)
Week 12: @ NC
3
Last Week: 4
Highest Ranking: 1
After a time at the top of the table and nice stretch of results, the Independence have felt the recent absences of leading scorer Tresor Mbuyu and goalkeeper Adrían Zendejas, as the Jacks have dropped two straight and been outscored six to zero in those contests.
8 Forward Madison FC
(3-3-4)
Week 12: @ TRM
1
Last Week: 9
Highest Ranking: 3
With loads of potential on its roster, if Madison can see a few more stars break out of their shells like Cassini did on Saturday, don’t be surprised to see the ‘Mingos make a run.
9 South Georgia Tormenta FC
(3-3-4)
Week 12: v. MAD
3
Last Week: 6
Highest Ranking: 1
Winless in four straight and outscored eight to three in those contests, the once top-of-the-table side certainly has the ability to bounce back.
10 Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC
(2-2-4)
Week 12: @ RIC

Last Week: 10
Highest Ranking: 6
The Hailstorm have gone unbeaten in their last four, but they’ll need to start converting those draws into wins if they want to climb up the table.
11 FC Tucson
(2-6-1)
Week 12: @ CV

Last Week: 11
Highest Ranking: 7
A tough start to the season for FC Tucson is set to get a whole lot tougher, as the league’s leakiest defense is set to take on the top three highest scoring clubs in three consecutive matches.
