League One Player of the Month Nominees – May

Top performers from May include pair from NCFC, Fuego FC and one Triumph SC representative

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One announced on Wednesday the five nominees for the League One Player of the Month award for April, with top performers from the season’s first full month selected for the ballot.

Voting for the League One Player of the Month Award will be conducted by the following two voting bodies:

  • A fan vote on USLLeagueOne.com will comprise 60 percent of the poll. The fan vote will run through Monday, June 6 at 12:30 p.m. ET.

  • The USL Technical Committee’s ballots comprise 40 percent of the poll.

The award winner and complete voting results will be announced on Wednesday, June 8.

Please note: The League One Player of the Month selection process in no way is tied directly to the voting and selection process of End of the Year awards such as League One Most Valuable Player or position players of the year.

USL LEAGUE ONE PLAYER OF THE MONTH – MAY

Oalex Anderson, North Carolina FC – Paired perfectly with Garrett McLaughlin at the top of the North Carolina FC attack, Oalex Anderson recorded two goals and two assists in May to guide NCFC to three wins out of four contests.

Villyan Bijev, Central Valley Fuego FC – The veteran forward recorded three goals, one assist, three key passes and eight shots on target to lead Central Valley Fuego FC to its first unbeaten month in club history.

Diego Casillas, Central Valley Fuego FC – Featuring in just 108 minutes of action in May, Casillas made the most of his time on the pitch, recording two goals, one assist and 84% passing accuracy to average 2.5 goals and assists per 90 minutes.

Allen Gavilanes, Greenville Triumph SC – Gavilanes led the league in May with 12 key passes and added to his side’s success with one goal and one assist. According to American Soccer Analysis, Gavilanes averaged 0.87 goals added per match – a league high in May.

Garrett McLaughlin, North Carolina FC – Now leading the Golden Boot race with six goals on the season, McLaughlin scored three times to propel North Carolina FC to three wins in four contests during the month of May.
