Charlotte head to the top of the table and the Power Rankings

In their first season in League One, the Charlotte Independence now top the table and the Power Rankings after claiming a 2-1 win over Forward Madison FC on Saturday.

In Madison, veteran Colombian forward Iván Luquetta headed in his second goal of the season to open the scoring following a perfect cross into the box from Koa Santos in the 7th minute. The second half featured a remarkable goal from both Charlotte's Quinn McNeill and Madison's Nazeem Bartman, but that early goal from Luquetta would prove to be the difference in the end.

North Carolina see the biggest rise after taking care of Greenville, while Tormenta FC drop five spots after its tough loss to Fuego FC. Also on the rise are the aforementioned Fuego FC, Chattanooga Red Wolves and Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC.

Biggest Movers

1 Charlotte Independence
Week 8: L v. NCO, W @ MAD
Last Week: 2
Highest Ranking: 1
Despite a midweek loss to Northern Colorado, the Independence bounced back with a win over Madison and now top the table thanks in large part to the league’s leading scorer, Tresor Mbuyu.
2 Chattanooga Red Wolves SC
Week 8: ---
Last Week: 3
Highest Ranking: 1
The Red Wolves had the week off but will look to extend their two-match unbeaten streak and regain their top spot in the league table against Greenville on Saturday.
3 Central Valley Fuego FC
Week 8: W @ TRM
Last Week: 5
Highest Ranking: 2
Fuego FC marched into Statesboro and torched the league’s best defensive unit at the time. The biggest victory in Fuego FC’s young history has the newcomers sitting at second in the table.
4 Richmond Kickers
Week 8: ---

Last Week: 4
Highest Ranking: 1
Tied for the fewest goals allowed in league play this season, the Kickers will take on a confident North Carolina FC side next week.
5 North Carolina FC
Week 8: W v. GVL
Last Week: 8
Highest Ranking: 4
NCFC are really starting to put the pieces together with a core group of internationals. Despite three early-season losses, the second-year League One side has never lost by more than a one-goal margin this season.
6 South Georgia Tormenta FC
Week 8: L v. CV
Last Week: 1
Highest Ranking: 1
It was certainly a Saturday to forget for South Georgia, as the table-toppers at the time were thoroughly dismantled by the visiting Fuego FC.
7 Union Omaha
Week 8: ---

Last Week: 7
Highest Ranking: 2
Another week off for Union Omaha sees the Owls take a slight tumble as they prep for their Round of 16 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup fixture on Wednesday.
8 Greenville Triumph SC
Week 8: L @ NC
Last Week: 6
Highest Ranking: 6
Triumph SC’s three-match unbeaten streak was ended by NCFC’s 1-0 victory on Saturday, but Greenville should be able to continue its recent upward trajectory.
9 Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC
Week 8: W @ CLT
Last Week: 10
Highest Ranking: 6
The Hailstorm claimed their second League One win on Wednesday over the red-hot Independence, avenging their loss to the fellow league newcomer earlier in the year.
10 Forward Madison FC
Week 8: L v. CLT
Last Week: 9
Highest Ranking: 3
Madison have dropped three of their last four as the early-season woes continue for the ‘Mingos.

Tucson will have to wait another week before potentially snapping its three-match losing streak.
