Greenville vault up the table, South Georgia retain top spot

South Georgia Tormenta FC retained its spot atop the League One Power Rankings in Week 7 after securing an improbable, last-minute victory on the road against North Carolina FC.

The high-scoring affair opened up with Garrett McLaughlin positioning himself atop the Golden Boot standings with a clean finish into the bottom of the net following a good service from Oalex Anderson in the 10th minute. Tormenta FC changed the momentum in a hurry, as the visitors scored twice in the span of 10 minutes thanks to Kazaiah Sterling's first league goal in the 31st minute and Barry Sharifi's second professional goal in the 41st. In the second half, Oalex Anderson nearly confirmed the victory for the home side with a goal in the 59th minute but a missed penalty less than ten minutes later. The deciding goal came from Arthur Bosua in the 83rd minute as the South African attacker jumped on a poor pass and tapped the ball into an empty net.

Greenville Triumph SC cruise up the table after a convincing victory over Forward Madison FC, while the Charlotte Independence and Central Valley Fuego FC rise up by a pair of spots thanks to a win and draw, respectively. On the opposite end, Union Omaha and North Carolina FC take a slight tumble.

Week 7: W v. TUC
2
Last Week: 4
Highest Ranking: 2
Along with Tormenta FC, the Independence have been an early season surprise in League One. The newcomers have found solid chemistry amongst club veterans, young loanees and a batch of international talents.
3 Chattanooga Red Wolves SC
(3-2-2)
Week 7: T v. CV
1
Last Week: 2
Highest Ranking: 1
The leaders in goals scored on the season, the Red Wolves’ offense has been clicking early to lead the group to the top of the table.
4 Richmond Kickers
(2-2-2)
Week 7: T v. OMA
1
Last Week: 3
Highest Ranking: 1
Two wins, two losses and two draws to start the season for the Kickers. The next six matches will be pivotal for the Kickers if they hope to remain near the top of the table.
5 Central Valley Fuego FC
(2-1-2)
Week 7: T v. GVL
2
Last Week: 7
Highest Ranking: 2
Considering one of the leakiest defenses in Fuego FC limited the top attack in the league to just a pair of goals, Central Valley should be content with a physical draw on the road.
6 Greenville Triumph SC
(2-2-2)
Week 7: W v. MAD
3
Last Week: 9
Highest Ranking: 6
After one point in its first three matches, Triumph SC have claimed seven in its last three to vault up the table. Friday’s convincing victory over Madison wasn’t as close as the scoreline indicated.
7 Union Omaha
(1-1-3)
Week 7: T @ RIC
2
Last Week: 5
Highest Ranking: 2
Considering the Kickers held a 60-40 possession advantage throughout the match, a draw against one of the top contenders early on isn’t half bad for Omaha.
8 North Carolina FC
(2-3-1)
Week 7: L v. TRM
2
Last Week: 6
Highest Ranking: 4
Early season NCFC star, Oalex Anderson had a clear opportunity to seal the victory for NCFC from the spot. An incredibly unfortunate turn of events saw Anderson sky the penalty and Bosua grab the win for Tormenta FC due to a goalkeeping error.
9 Forward Madison FC
(1-2-3)
Week 7: L @ GVL
1
Last Week: 8
Highest Ranking: 3
Forward Madison FC matched up with a Triumph SC offense on a mission. The loss in Greenville was seemingly confirmed before halftime.
10 Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC
(1-2-1)
Week 7:---

Last Week: 10
Highest Ranking: 6
The Hailstorm had the week off before a midweek contest with the Independence. With the fewest matches played in the league thus far, Northern Colorado have time to catch up.
11 FC Tucson
(1-4-1)
Week 7: L @ CLT

Last Week: 11
Highest Ranking: 7
Three consecutive losses is never a good thing, but FC Tucson’s midfielder corps seems to be one of the best in the league early on.
