FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - South Georgia Tormenta FC's Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup run came to an end at DRV PNK Stadium on Tuesday evening with a 3-1 loss to Inter Miami CF. In a match closer than the scoreline indicated, South Georgia held significant advantages over Miami in corner kicks, total shots and shots on target.
Tormenta FC controlled the opening half of the contest, firing off four shots on target and seven total shots inside the Inter Miami penalty area. South Georgia's remarkable defensive shutout streak was snapped after 653 minutes as a Tormenta FC giveaway just before the half's conclusion led to Lassiter's first score.
Despite a sending off on either side, the second half saw Miami capitalize on another pair of chances to seal the win. A strong performance from Drake Callender in Miami's goal limited the Tormenta FC attack to just one goal – a first from Kazaiah Sterling – by full time.
