CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In their first-ever meeting, the Charlotte Independence (2-1-1, 2nd) stormed back to defeat Union Omaha (1-1-2, 5th) 2-1 on Saturday evening thanks to two goals within the final 10 minutes of the match.
Despite Omaha's Alex Touche nearly converting a wondergoal, a first half with little offensive action gave way to an action-packed second half. The visitors opened the scoring late, as Noe Meza converted a special solo goal in the 65th minute of play. After the go-ahead Omaha goal, Charlotte flexed its offensive muscles, scoring twice in the final ten minutes. The equalizer came from a combination of a beautiful Miguel Ibarra cross and tough Iván Luquetta headed finish in the 83rd minute. Finally, Khori Bennett earned his first professional goal - the match-winning strike - forcing a ball over the line in stoppage time.
