CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Independence earned a late 2-1 win over visiting Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC Saturday evening at American Legion Memorial Stadium. The stoppage-time winner means that the Independence extend their unbeaten streak to two to start the league season.
The match began with Charlotte goalkeeper Adrián Zendejas taking down Irvin Parra in the penalty area just a handful of minutes into the match. Parra himself would step up to the spot and slot home the penalty in the 7th minute to give Northern Colorado the lead. A quick response from the Jacks saw veteran attacker Miguel Ibarra knock in a pass from Tresor Mbuyu in the 14th minute. The remainder of the match was an even match until a Hailstorm turnover near midfield lead to a quick break and Tresor Mbuyu winner in stoppage time.
