CARY, N.C. – In its home opener, North Carolina FC looked to be on their way to earning points until a trio of Chattanooga Red Wolves SC scores in the span of 10 minutes stunned NCFC.
Continuing his hot run of form, first-year North Carolina man Garrett McLaughlin scored his second goal in two League One matches, tapping in a perfect Oalex Anderson assist to give NCFC the early lead.
The match progressed with NCFC holding onto its one-goal lead until the Red Wolves were able to draw level on an incredible curling shot from Rey Ortiz in the 60th minute. The remarkable strike would spur the Red Wolves on a run that saw two more goals hit the back of the net for Chattanooga within the next 10 minutes. Following Ortiz's goal, Josue España hit a long-distance strike to stun the NCFC 'keeper before Aaron Lombardi wrapped the victory up with a sensational volley into the bottom corner of the goal.
