CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Chattanooga Red Wolves have acquired goalkeeper Tor Saunders on loan from USL Championship side Indy Eleven for the 2022 USL League One season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

“Tor Saunders is a great addition to the team,” said Red Wolves Head Coach Jimmy Obleda. “Very happy to have him with the team and being able to add to the roster that we are building.”

The 6-foot-5 goalkeeper from Seattle, Wash. and product of the Seattle Sounders Academy played collegiate soccer for the University of Akron and Coastal Carolina University. During his two seasons in South Carolina, Saunders earned All-Sun Belt honors and was named the Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year.

Following a successful college career, Saunders was selected by Nashville SC with the 74th overall pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft becoming the 13th player in Coastal Carolina men’s soccer history to be drafted to MLS. Saunders signed for USL Championship side Indy Eleven in February 2022 on a “sign-and-loan” agreement that will see him suit up for the Red Wolves this season.

“I am really excited to join the Red Wolves and be back in the state of Tennessee,” said Saunders. “I’m looking forward to playing in front of such great fans and for such a great organization. I can’t wait to get started.”

“After getting a long look at Tor during preseason we are absolutely encouraged by his potential,” said Indy Eleven Head Coach Mark Lowry. “The ability to get competitive minutes in Chattanooga will serve him well, and we wish him all the best during the League One season.”

“We were very fortunate to find Tor and thankful for the loan from Indy Eleven,” said Red Wolves President & GM Sean McDaniel. “Tor brings a very high standard to our goalkeeping roster. We are looking forward to watching him progress this season.”
