TUCSON, Ariz. - FC Tucson on Monday announced the signing of defensive midfielder Tevin Shaw pending league and federation approval. Shaw joins the League One side after playing with Atletico Ottawa in the Canadian Premier League.
"Tucson is a wonderful club and there are some great people there," said Shaw. "I've always wanted to play in the USL and I'm grateful Tucson is giving me the opportunity to showcase my talent."
Shaw joins the club after playing 806 minutes across 17 games with Ottawa where he grabbed one assist, made 20 interceptions, 21 clearances and 55 recoveries.
The Jamaican international started playing in his youth with Jamaican National Premier League side Boys' Town before signing his first professional contract with the club in 2014. Shaw went on to play for Jamaican sides Tivoli Gardens and Portmore United before moving to Canada.
Shaw has been called up to the Jamaican national team six times, making his debut in January 2018 against South Korea.
"The skillset is certainly there and we wanted to make sure we got somebody with experience, ambition, who could cover ground, and who has a good personality," said FC Tucson head coach Jon Pearlman, who pointed to Shaw's international duty as a big positive. "Those kinds of experiences are what we need for our team if we're going to be a championship and playoff team."
