PAPILLION, Neb. – Union Omaha announced its first roster moves of the offseason with five players from the club’s 2021 USL League One title-winning roster making up the group of initial returners.

Omaha exercised contract options on goalkeeper Kevin Piedrahita, defender Daltyn Knutson and midfielder Conor Doyle. Defender Damia Viader and midfielder JP Scearce were previously under contract for the 2022 USL League One season.

Viader returns for his third season at the club having earned the USL League One Defender of the Year award and All-League First Team honors this past campaign. The native of Barcelona appeared in every game of the regular season and playoffs in 2021, recording seven goals, six assists and 61 key passes as he earned MVP honors in the USL League One Final when the side defeated Greenville Triumph SC for its first league title.

Doyle joined Viader in appearing in all 30 contests during the 2021 campaign and recorded six assists to rank second on the team and tied for 16th in League One on the season. The central midfielder also recorded 36 interceptions and won 24 tackles defensively while posting a passing accuracy rate of 73.2 percent.

Scearce, who made his professional debut with Union Omaha in 2020, returns after ranking fifth on the side with 2,344 minutes of action in the 2021 campaign. The 24-year-old recorded one goal and three assists, and led the side with 45 tackles won while winning a team-high 253 duels (61.9% success rate) and 127 aerial duels (61.7% success rate).

Knutson will be returning for his second season with Union Omaha after appearing in 23 matches during the 2021 season, while Piedrahita will also return after joining the squad just before the start of the 2021 campaign and serving as back-up to starter Rashid Nuhu.

Union Omaha is still in the midst of discussions with other members of the 2021 squad about returning and will utilize the free agent market to solidify its roster leading into the 2022 campaign, which is slated to begin in the spring of 2022.
