GREENVILLE, S.C. – Greenville Triumph SC booked its place in the USL League One Final with a 1-0 extra time victory over Chattanooga Red Wolves SC at Legacy Early College on Saturday night in the USL League One Semifinals, presented by TwinSpires.
Triumph SC’s Jesús Ibarra scored a belter in the 97th minute to earn Greenville’s spot in next weekend’s Final. Greenville will visit Union Omaha, which defeated FC Tucson 6-1 in the other semifinal match.
Greenville and Chattanooga met two weeks ago on the same field in the regular season and played out a 0-0 draw. Through another 90 minutes Saturday night, there was still nothing to separate the teams.
Ibarra provided the separation in the first extra time period with a beautiful strike from 22 yards out. Chattanooga goalkeeper Tim Trilk got a hand on it, but it was simply hit too hard to be denied. It was only Ibarra’s second goal this season, but it was Greenville’s biggest goal of the year.
Marios Lomis scored an insurance goal in the second extra time period, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead in the 111th minute. Andrew Booth provided the assist with a perfectly-placed square ball after drawing Trilk off his line.
