Argentine forward recorded five goals in final month of regular season to drive team to playoffs

TAMPA, Fla. – Richmond Kickers forward Emiliano Terzaghi has been voted USL League One’s Player of the Month for October presented by Cleer Audio after closing the campaign with five goals in his final six appearances to help the Kickers reach the 2021 USL League One Playoffs, presented by TwinSpires, while setting a league record for goals in a season.

The award is the Argentine’s second Player of the Month award this season, having previously claimed the honor in July. Terzaghi scored the decisive goals as the Kickers opened the month with consecutive victories at home to Chattanooga Red Wolves SC and Forward Madison FC, and then scored twice in Richmond’s final meeting of the season with the Flamingos on October 16 including an 88th-minute winner that carried the side to a crucial victory to their postseason hopes.

“I really appreciate the recognition of being named the Player of the Month,” said Terzaghi. “We fought as a team, and I am happy my performance helped the team make the playoffs.”

League One’s 2020 Most Valuable Player also found the net in the club’s final game of the regular season to move to 18 goals on the year, setting a single season record for League One as he passed former North Texas SC standout Ronaldo Damus’ total of 16 goals in the 2019 regular season. The 28-year-old’s Goals Added mark for the month came in at +2.64, the highest of any individual player in October.

“Emiliano has been an incredible professional over the past two years,” said Kickers Head Coach Darren Sawatzky. “To win the Golden Boot once is a great accomplishment. To back it up the following year and to be recognized again as a Player of the Month in our league is a testament to how hard he works. We are very happy for him.”

Terzaghi received 44 percent of a weighted poll that included the USL League One Technical Committee and an online fan vote held at USLLeagueOne.com. Union Omaha’s Devin Boyce finished second on 33 percent after recording five assists and one goal in the final month of the season, while Toronto FC II’s Kobe Franklin finished third on 10 percent after recording four assists and one goal.
