FC Tucson Climbs Into Playoff Field With 4-2 Win Over Richmond

FC Tucson outlasts Kickers in six-goal thriller, setting up rematch in quarterfinals

TUCSON, Ariz. — FC Tucson beat the Richmond Kickers 4-2 at Kino North Stadium on Saturday night in the final match of the regular season, setting up a rematch between the teams in the quarterfinals next weekend.

FC Tucson needed a win to earn a spot in the USL League One Playoffs, presented by TwinSpires, and it delivered in a big way. Tucson was the last team to clinch a spot in the playoffs, but climbed all the way to fourth place with the win, earning a home game in the quarterfinal round against these same Richmond Kickers.

Richmond scored the first goal in each half, but in both cases, Tucson was quick to reply.

Jonathan Bolanos spotted Richmond a lead in the 22nd minute, but Maxi Schenfeld equalized for the hosts only two minutes later. Deri Corfe scored in the 42nd minute to send Tucson into the locker room with a 2-1 halftime lead.

The Kickers started the second half strong, with Emiliano Terzaghi converting from the penalty spot in the 49th minute to notch his league-best 18th goal of the season to make the score 2-2.

Again, Tucson was quick to respond, with Luca Mastrantonio scoring only three minutes later to restore Tucson’s lead.

Shak Adams added an insurance goal in the 58th minute to complete the 4-2 win.
