CARY, N.C. – North Carolina FC beat South Georgia Tormenta FC 1-0 at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday night thanks to a second-half goal from Peter Pearson.
As a scoreless first half wound down, South Georgia’s Raheem Sommersall was shown his second yellow card of the match and dismissed during first-half stoppage time.
NCFC didn’t take long to make the most of its man advantage, with Pearson putting the home team ahead just three minutes into the second half. Pearson’s shot from well outside the box may have taken a deflection on the way in. It was his second goal of the season.
North Carolina outshot Tormenta FC 17-11 (6-3 on target) in the victory.
Both teams entered the match already eliminated from postseason contention. North Carolina FC will wrap the regular season at home against Greenville Triumph SC next weekend. South Georgia’s 2021 season is now officially over.
