TFC II's playoff hopes take a hit as three-match win streak ends

TORONTO — Toronto FC II’s hopes of reaching the USL League One Playoffs took a blow Friday evening as Fort Lauderdale CF earned a 2-1 road win at the BMO Training Ground, snapping a three-match winning streak for the hosts.

A win would have seen TFC II end the day above the playoff line in fifth place, but the Reds must now hope for help from other teams before next week’s regular season finale against New England Revolution II. Toronto sits in eighth place with one game to play. Fort Lauderdale entered the match already eliminated from playoff contention, but ended its season on a positive note.

Toronto scored first on Kobe Franklin’s strike in the 22nd minute, but Brampton, Ontario native Shaan Hundal replied with two goals against his former club to lead FTLCF to victory.

Hundal’s first goal came after a Romeo Beckham cross from the right wing hit the post and bounced right to him for a tap-in in the 32nd minute.

His second goal came nine minutes after halftime, finishing through traffic from the top of the 18-yard box.

Toronto pushed hard for an equalizer, but Fort Lauderdale goalkeeper Drake Callender recorded six saves in the match to close out the win for the visitors.
