Tucson moves back into the playoff field, while South Georgia is eliminated from contention.

TUCSON, Ariz. – Kevin Rodriguez bagged a brace for FC Tucson on Saturday night as his team defeated South Georgia Tormenta FC 3-1 at Kino North Stadium.

Rodriguez scored in the 17th and 67th minutes to lift his team back into the playoff positions at the end of Saturday night. FC Tucson entered the match in 7th place following Toronto FC II’s win over Chattanooga Red Wolves SC earlier Saturday night, but Tucson reclaimed sixth place with the win. The result eliminated South Georgia and Fort Lauderdale CF from playoff contention.

FC Tucson took the lead in the 17th minute when a Noah Franke shot from distance was saved by Tormenta FC goalkeeper Pablo Jara but the rebound bounced directly into the path of Rodriguez for an easy finish.

South Georgia tied the match just before the half hour mark courtesy of great run from Azaad Liadi to beat the offside trap. Liadi squared the ball to Stefan Mueller just before colliding with the Tucson goalkeeper Wallis Lapsley. Mueller put the ball into an empty net to tie the game at 1-1.

Rodriguez was back at it in the 67th minute for the home team, receiving a pass from Shak Adams, taking a clever touch to beat his defender and firing past Jara for the go-ahead goal.

Charlie Dennis completed the scoreline for Tucson with a perfect free kick around Jara and into the upper corner of the goal in the 83rd minute.
