Match Report: Conway Fires Hat Trick To Keep Omaha Atop Table

American forward reaches double figures

PAPILLION, Neb. – Union Omaha’s Evan Conwaysrecorded a hat trick on Saturday night, carrying his team to a 4-1 win over North Carolina FC at Werner Park. The win keeps Omaha atop the table with three matches to go.

The league leaders wasted no time, taking a lead just 83 seconds into the match when Evan Conway finished a sweeping team move with a tap-in to put Omaha ahead early.

North Carolina leveled the match in the 16th minute, with Malick Mbaye nodding home an Aziel Jackson corner kick to tie the match at 1-1.

Omaha restored its lead only three minutes later with Conway again finishing from close range. North Carolina deflected a cross from Greg Hurst, but was unable to keep it out of danger, with Conway scoring his second goal of the night.

Union made the score 3-1 in the 25th minute, with Emir Alihodzic heading home from six yards out.

Conway completed his hat trick in the 57th minute, with yet another header from short range. Devan Boyce provided the assist.

With a hat trick Saturday night, Conway now has 10 goals on the season, just one behind Hurst for the team lead. None of Conway’s three goals were finishing with his feet and all three came from inside the 6-yard box. The first went in off his stomach, while the second and third were headers.

Omaha outshot North Carolina 17-3 (11-1 on target).
