One-handed save to deny Tormenta FC topped poll conducted over past weekend

TAMPA, Fla. – The New England Revolution II’s Joe Rice has earned the USL League One Fans’ Choice Save of the Month award for September as his outstanding one-handed save against South Georgia Tormenta FC at Gillette Stadium at the start of last month finished first in the poll conducted over the past weekend.

Among League One’s leaders with seven shutouts this season, the third-year pro has been a key part of the Revolution II’s bid to reach the postseason for the first time this year. Against Tormenta FC, Rice positioned himself well as South Georgia standout Marco Micaletto created space near the top of the penalty area and produced a fine one-handed save to turn a shot toward the top-left corner of the net behind.

Rice’s save earned 66 percent of the poll conducted at USLLeagueOne.com. North Carolina FC’s Nicholas Holliday finished in second place on 22 percent for his diving save to deny Chattanooga Red Wolves SC’s Jonathan Ricketts from close range at CHI Memorial Stadium.
