New England takes third consecutive victory to continue drive toward playoff berth

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Edward Kizza scored the only goal just before the hour-mark as the New England Revolution II took their third consecutive victory with a 1-0 win against Forward Madison FC. The result moved the Revolution II into third place in the League One standings, while keeping the Flamingos below the playoff line.

Madison looked the more likely to break the deadlock in the first half and an early chance came to Derek Gebhard in the third minute on the half-volley that Revolution II goalkeeper Joe Rice saved sharply. Rice recorded another pair of saves to take the game to the break scoreless as the Revolution II failed to find the target with any of their five first-half efforts.

New England broke the deadlock in the 58th minute Noel Buck delivered a clever cross from the top-left edge of the penalty area toward the penalty spot, where it was met by a diving header from Justin Rennicks. Madison goalkeeper Phil Breno got down well to save the initial shot, but the rebound spilled loose for Kizza to tuck home the rebound inside the six-yard area.

The Flamingos tried to respond in the final 25 minutes, and with four minutes to go Ryan Sierakowski forced another save by Rice with a shot from the top-right edge of the penalty area. The Revolution II held firm late, though, and saw out an important three points to further solidify its playoff position.

New England will next pay a visit to Toronto FC II on Friday, Oct. 8, while Madison returns to action in midweek with a Wednesday night road meeting against rivals the Richmond Kickers.
