Nicky Hernandez's superb strike was the difference on Sunday

CARY, N.C. - A wonderful goal by Nicky Hernandez earned North Texas SC a 1-0 away win over North Carolina FC on Sunday afternoon at Sahlen's Stadium.

North Texas nearly took an early lead when Hernandez's close range header was parried on to the crossbar by NCFC goalkeeper Nicholas Holliday, but the NTSC midfielder would wind up getting his goal just before halftime.

Cutting inside on his right foot, Hernandez unleashed a vicious strike from the corner of the penalty area which rocketed in at the far post.

In the second half, the hosts pushed numbers forward in search of an equalizer. Their best chance to get one came when Aziel Jackson found space for a shot in the box, but Richard Sánchez made a spectacular save to preserve North Texas' lead.

The visitors would go on to hold that lead until the final whistle, picking up three points to move themselves into sixth place and above the playoff line.

Both teams will hit the road for their next fixtures, with NCFC taking on Toronto FC II on Friday and North Texas traveling to FC Tucson next Saturday.
