TUCSON, Ariz. - FC Tucson pushes out three goals at home to defeat Fort Lauderdale CF, winning four of the past five matches.
It was a very evenly matched game throughout the 90 minutes, with an equal amount of possession and comparable offensive chances. However, FC Tucson was able to squeeze out the win at home thanks to a goal by Luca Mastrantonio in the 19th minute.
The game was traveling up and down the pitch with both sides able to get a few chances off in the beginning. It was a goal off a corner kick that gave Tucson the lead. Charlie Dennis delivered a perfect corner to the head of Mastrantonio, who was able to nod it into the other end of the goal.
Fort Lauderdale had a great opportunity to equalize minutes after the Tucson goal. George Acosta had time and space to put a cross into a packed box, which found Aimé Mabika, who was able to put the ball on frame. Unfortunately for the away team, the ball hit the crossbar and the rebound went wide of the goal.
The second half was similar to the first, with both teams having great opportunities to score. Fort Lauderdale had chances to equalize but it was Tucson to add another goal to the scoreboard.
In the 73rd minute, Deri Corfe battled his way through two defenders and found Mohamad Kone who provided the give and go back - from the ground - to Corfe, who curled the ball around the Fort Lauderdale goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
In the dying moments of the game, Corfe scored the third goal for the home team off a well-timed pass from Manuel Ferriol following a breakaway. The goal was the nail in the coffin to solidify three points for Tucson.
Both teams are back in action next Saturday, with Tucson traveling to take on Greenville Triumph SC and Fort Lauderdale hosting South Georgia Tormenta FC.
